Lawson disqualified from Mexico City qualifying over MGU-K breach
F1 · penalty · 2026-11-01
The stewards disqualified Liam Lawson from the provisional qualifying classification after his car failed to meet the minimum MGU-K power step down rule at the end of his fastest Q2 lap. The team self-disclosed the breach but the stewards said a performance advantage is not required for a penalty under the technical rules. The decision is FIA document 57. A separate ruling, document 58, confirms Lawson is still eligible to start the race, with his grid slot set under the regulations for a car with no qualifying time.
