Hamilton and Antonelli both penalised in Hungary qualifying

Lewis Hamilton was given a three-place grid penalty after the FIA stewards found he unnecessarily impeded Oscar Piastri during his final Q3 lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix, dropping the Ferrari driver from second to fifth on the grid. Kimi Antonelli separately received a three-place grid penalty and one penalty point on his superlicence for failing to slow sufficiently, by less than one percent, under single yellow flags triggered when Max Verstappen spun at the final corner in Q3, dropping the championship leader from fourth to seventh. The double penalty, involving the top two drivers in the 2026 championship standings, was issued post-qualifying by the stewards in Budapest on Saturday 25 July 2026. As a result of both penalties, Charles Leclerc moves to the front row alongside pole-sitter Lando Norris for Sunday's race.
