IndyCar eyes international return: Australia, Brazil, Spain, Japan
IndyCar · statement · 2026-07-25
RACER reported on July 24, 2026 that Penske Entertainment and Fox Corporation are pursuing an ambitious plan to return IndyCar to international competition for the first time since 2013, when the series last raced at the Sambadrome in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Countries under active consideration include Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan and Spain, with Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya among the specific venues being evaluated. A first new international venue could potentially join the 2027 schedule, though 2028 is considered the more realistic timeline, particularly for international street circuit options.
